Is my scan data private — do you sell my data?

Accepted Answer

Yes — your scans stay on your device. We do not sell, rent, or trade your scan history, your dietary profile, or any personally identifying data. Anonymous aggregated counts (for example, "how many people scanned product X this week") are used to improve scoring; nothing tied back to you leaves the app.

How accurate is the score and where does it come from (Nutri-Score plus additive/allergen lists)?

For food we start from the official Nutri-Score algorithm (A–E) and then layer ingredient-list signals: added sugar, ultra-processing markers (NOVA group 4), common additives of concern, and the EU/UK major-allergen list. For cosmetics we apply a parallel score built from the INCI list — flagged allergens, sensitizers, and known endocrine disruptors. Scores are a clear, comparable signal, not a nutritional prescription: always cross-check the label for any condition your doctor treats seriously.

What's the difference between Free and Plus?

Free covers everything most shoppers need: scan a barcode, get the clean score, see the allergens and additives flagged. Plus unlocks the work that takes minutes per product — side-by-side comparisons of every alternative on the same shelf, curated social reviews on what people actually prefer, and unlimited personal filters for your dietary profile. Pro adds deep ingredient dossiers and unlimited personal filters with exportable history.

Question 4

Why do some cosmetics show no score (off-label / no INCI)?

Cosmetics scoring requires the INCI (ingredients) list — the standardized block on the back of the pack. Some products are off-label in our database (small-batch, regional, or freshly launched) and we have not yet ingested their INCI, so we surface a transparent "no score available" instead of guessing. You can still see the product, flag it for review, and submit the back-of-pack photo so we can score it within a few days.

Does the app need a connection to scan?

The scanner itself is on-device: the camera reads the barcode locally and the score lookup uses a small on-device cache so a scan resolves in under a second even offline. A connection is only needed the first time you scan a product (to pull its ingredients and score from our database) or when you want to sync history across devices. Once a product is cached, scanning it works on a plane.
